Why buy lemon pie when homemade is so much better? You can make lemon pie at home and enjoy the fresh aroma swirling through your kitchen. Filling

Lemon Chess Pie Recipe- Best Lemon Chess Pie

1/3 cup margarine or butter, softened

1 cup sugar

3 eggs

2 tablespoons flour

1/4 cup lemon juice

1 tablespoon grated lemon peel

1/2 cup milk

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Directions

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

Make pie crust following the package directions for one 9-inch pie crust. You'll also need a 9-inch pie pan.

In a large bowl, combine the margarine, sugar and eggs; beat well. Add the flour, lemon juice, lemon peel and milk. Blend ingredients together thoroughly. (Filling may look curdled) Pour into a partially baked crust. Sprinkle with nutmeg.

Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the edges of the filling start to get brown. The center of the filling should be almost set. After 15 to 20 minutes of baking, cover the edge of the crust with strips of aluminum foil to prevent the crust from burning.

Cool pie on a wire wrack for 30 minutes. Refrigerate 3 to 4 hours before serving. Garnish with whipped cream. Keep leftovers in the refrigerator.

Best Key Lime Pie Recipe

Best key lime pie recipe is a world's favorite of mine which takes me back to when I saw Bobby Flay make one on the food network. It seemed so easy to make in fact if was very easy and took only 15 minutes to 30 minutes to complete. Even though it looked like ice cream it was not for sure. He used some of the most popular ingredients such as key lime juice, sweetened condensed milk, cream cheese, cool whip topping, graham cracker crust, and eggs yolks. The pie crust seems to be the most delicious looking part of the dish. Here is the ingredient to my favorite recipe:

Ingredients

\"Pie Recipe\"

  • 1 package crushed graham crackers
  • 4 cups of sugar
  • 1/4 cup clarified butter
  • 2 tbp melted butter
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1  can condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup key lime juice
  • 1/3 cup finely powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons lime zest
  • 1 1/3 cup whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup of powdered sugar

Best Key Lime Pie Recipe

Found in many cookbooks, the pie is an American dessert made of key lime juice, egg yolks, and sweetened condensed milk in a pie crust. The pie is made with carnation canned sweetened condensed milk, since fresh milk was not a common commodity in the hot temperature of the Florida Keys before modern refrigerated distribution methods.

The pie is a mixture of a rich, creamy yellow, from the egg yolks that enrich the citrus-kissed custard that makes up the filling. The pie is deep yellow in color. Regular of powered sugar can be used. The pie is a dessert made of key lime juice, egg yolks, and sweetened condensed milk in a pie crust. Sometimes a cracker crust is used so keep this in mind when you go shopping for the ingredients.. The key lime pie is delicious, but obviously it's not for everybody. It's great after a seafood dinner and is one of my wife's favorites. She loves it.

It is not what you think; many people are used to a green pie, which is not the true color of the awesome

Key Lime Pie Recipe History

Recipe note: Fresh juice (some people even use some lemon juice) is far superior to bottled juice. Many early recipes for the pie did not instruct the cook to ever bake the pie, relying on this chemical reaction (called souring) to produce the proper consistency of the filling. The first recipe was written down in the 1930's, it had been made long before that down in Key West. The list of tales goes on and on in various cookbooks.

I bet even the great Sara Lee or Rachel Ray couldn't make a better pie for her new husband's birthday party. Rumor is it's his favorite.

Mrs. Butters' Secret Key Lime Pie Recipe

"Frozen Key Lime Pie recipe?" Fern Butters asked. "Child, I'll take that secret with me to the grave."

Fern Butters' frozen key lime pie was legend. Every time President Harry S Truman went through Islamorada on Upper Matecumbe Key on his way to the "Little White House" in Key West, he stopped. More specifically, he
stopped at Fern Inn for some of Fern Butters' frozen key lime pie.

\"Pie Recipe\"

And so did other folks, commoners and dignitaries alike-Papa Hemingway, Cordell Hull, Douglas Fairbanks, Julia Child . And me.

Mrs. Butters' Secret Key Lime Pie Recipe

I didn't see any of those famous folks. Except Julia Child. And I didn't know who she was. Ignorance of youth.

But I did eat Mrs. Butters' frozen key lime pie.

I wasn't a child when I asked her about the recipe. I had recipes for my grandmother's compressed fruit cake. And my grandfather's elderberry wine. And a passel of others I'd collected from near and far. So I thought her recipe would fit right in with my collection.

Not so. I was a young pastor at her little church in Matecumbe. But I could have been Gabriel himself.

And could never obtain that closely guarded secret.

Many had tried to replicate her recipe, but without success. I saw Julia Child once try to wheedle the recipe from Fern Butters with no success. I heard she tied to duplicate the recipe-again, no success.

Of course, that may just be a legend. It's believable. Everyone who ever ate her frozen key lime pie coveted the recipe.

Well, Fern is now dead. The Fern Inn has changed names. Fern took the recipe to the grave with her.

But, recently her daughter called me up. She said that after all these years she was going through her mother's letters and things and trying to clean out an old dresser drawer packed with old letters and notes.

She came across an envelope with my name on it. She wanted to know if I were the same preacher that served the little church down in Matecumbe.

This was a strange event. I had moved to Wisconsin serving churches there for several years. When I returned to South Florida, I was a professor in a college for 33 years. I retired from the college and served a church in North Miami Beach for 13 years. I retired again. Then answered a desperation call to serve as chaplain at a retirement community. I just happened to be in the area where Fern Butters' daughter could contact me.

She sent me the envelope, now yellow with age. Fern had been dead for some 40 or so years. I opened the envelope. The note read:

This is what you asked for. Use it wisely.

And there was the recipe!

Now I've wondered what to do with this recipe. I could, of course, just publish it. Or I could write a book about my days as a young pastor among the Keys Conchs, as the folks there called themselves. I might even sell it [How long would that last!?]

But I've decided to give it away. I'm not even going to swear the recipients to secrecy. I'm just going to give it to folks who have a love for unusual recipes and for historical recipes. I have a buddy from North Carolina, for example, whose family has a recipe for pumpkin soup handed down since pioneer days.

And then there's my friend from Ladies Island in Beaufort County South Carolina. She claims her ancestors created Frogmore Stew.

There's an aunt in Western Maryland says she will give me the recipe for "Puddin'," a meat product that's out of this world when used on pancakes. I've no idea what the ingredients are, but I long to find out.

Folks that are interested in these kinds of recipe and are willing to share their own favorites are invited to subscribe at no cost to COOKIN' GOOD NEWSLETTER at http://www.cookin-good.com/.

Not only will subscribers receive a copy of Fern Butters' frozen key lime pie recipe, but will also receive a monthly issue of the newsletter at no cost. Everyone is invited to send their own unique recipes.

And invite your friends to subscribe. They'll love you for telling them about it.

But for those who are simply curious about the recipe, for those who don't want to visit the web site, for those who don't mind missing out on all the wonderful features found in Cookin' Good Gazette, here's the recipe.

With Fern's secret ingredient [forgive me, Fern!].

Add secret ingredient and beat until well mixed

Add key lime juice and mix well

Fold into pie shell

Place in freezer until well set. Keep unused portion in the freezer for up to a week [if it lasts that long!]

Topping

While pie sets beat 6 egg whites with cream of tartar for 5 minutes.

Add 1 cup of sugar and whip until meringue makes peaks when beater is removed from mixture.

Add to top of pie

Brown in 350◦ oven and cool in refrigerator for 15 or more minutes for a regular pie or in the freezer for an hour if it is frozen key lime pie.

Secret ingredient. ½ pint of soft vanilla ice cream.

Don't laugh. The addition of this secret ingredient has stumped many a jealous cook and chef, including, as I said, Julia Child. Reveal it and you take the mystery out of your own ability to produce "Harry Truman tested" Frozen Key Lime pie.

Hearty beef pot pie is a great meal to serve on a cold day or any time you want something that really sticks to your ribs. You can add extra zing to this recipe by adding 1 large chopped onion and mix in 1/3 cup of red wine with the gravy.

Beef Pot Pie Recipe - Homemade Beef Pot Pie

1 (14 oz.) can beef broth

3 large carrots, cubed

1 cup frozen green peas, thawed

3 tablespoons cornstarch

1/3 cup water

2 (9-inch) refrigerator pie crusts

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a saucepan over medium high heat, brown the pieces of meat on all sides. Pour in enough water to almost cover the meat. Bring to a boil and reduce heat. When the carrots and potatoes are done, transfer to a large mixing bowl and combine with the beef. Reserve the liquid in the saucepan. Mix the peas in with the vegetables and beef.

Dissolve the cornstarch in 1/3 cup of water and pour this into the reserved beef broth. Bring to a simmer while stirring constantly; reduce heat. Cook for 5 minutes.

Line a 9-inch pie plate with one of the pie shells following package directions. Spoon the beef mixture into the pie crust. Pour the gravy on top. Cover with remaining pie crust.

Bake for 25 minutes, or until crust is golden brown. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Ingredients

\"lime Pie\"

  • 1 package crushed graham crackers
  • 4 cups of sugar
  • 1/4 cup clarified butter
  • 2 tbp melted butter
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1  can condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup key lime juice
  • 1/3 cup finely powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons lime zest
  • 1 1/3 cup whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup of powdered sugar

The pie is made with canned sweetened condensed milk, since fresh milk was not a common commodity in the Florida Keys before modern refrigerated distribution methods.

Mind Your Manners - British Etiquette

Everyday Etiquette: Great Britain

Meeting People

\"pot Pie\"

In general the British prefer to be introduced to strangers, if at all possible wait for a third party introduction when meeting someone new.

Physical Greetings

Great Britain (especially England) is a non touching culture. When greeting someone a handshake accompanied by a "Pleased to meet you" is appropriate. When departing be sure to shake everyone's hand, a general group wave as is often done in the United States is not looked on favorably.

Physical Space

The British value space between one another.

Eye Contact

Strong eye contact is not overly common among strangers and casual acquaintances, too much eye contact is considered and invasion of privacy. Eye contact is used when one really wants to make a point, when speaking with close friends, and when interest in a person or topic wants to be stressed.

Good Topics of Discussion

If all else fails mention the weather!

Bad Topics of Discussion

Politics, religion, and sex. Also the common American question "what do you do?" is considered rude and too personal.

Communication Style

The British are a big fan of the understatement; this is shown in their choice of words ("indeed", "quite"), their volume (almost always quieter than other cultures) and body language (when first meeting facial expressions are kept to a minimum). Gestures are kept to a minimum and a polite self possessed manner is strived for.

Waiting in Line

Waiting in line (or queuing) is a never ending occurrence in the UK. You will find lines at every public facility, event, meet-up, etc. No matter how long the line is always go to the back and wait, and stay in line no matter how long it takes.

Walking

In the United Kingdom one walks on the left hand side and passes on the right.

Shopping

Customer service is not as "in your face" as it is in the United States. Generally a salesclerk will ignore you until eye contact is made signaling service is required.

When shopping at the grocery store be aware that if you touch the fruits or vegetables-you buy them.

Public Transportation

Always wait in line for a taxi, bus or train. When on the bus or train it is polite to give up your seat for the elderly, handicapped, pregnant women and parents with children.

When you board a taxi cab be sure to enter the cab from the opposite side of the driver and to sit in the back.

Tipping

Standard amounts are 10 to 15 percent. Services that are tipped are generally the same as those that are tipped for in the United States.

At a hotel bellmen are generally tipped 1 to 2 pounds per bag.

Appropriate Dress

Styles of dress are similar to those of the USA; however colors are often more muted (especially outside London).

Meal Time

Breakfast is typically from 7 to 9 AM.

A traditional "English Breakfast" is a large hearty meal consisting of: bacon, sausage ("bangers") toast/croissants/muffins/scones, juice, fried potatoes, eggs, cereal and juice. Tea & coffee are also commonly taken.

A traditional "Irish Breakfast" is called a "fry up" and consists of fried eggs, bacon (boiled pork, the name for American style "bacon" is "rashers") tomatoes, hot cereal, potatoes and juice.

Lunch is typically from 12 to 2 PM

Standard pub fare tend to make up Lunch-sandwiches, salads, etc.

High Tea & Regular Tea

Standard "Tea" is taken between 4 and 5 PM and consists of cakes, sweets, finger sandwiches and of course-tea.

Traditional High Tea is taken around 5 PM and is often a substitute for Dinner. High Tea includes all the fixings of a standard tea but includes a hot dish as well (pot pie, etc.)

Dinner is typically from 7-9 PM, with 8:00 being the traditional time. Formal dinners begin with an alcoholic drink followed by an appetizer.

Table Manners

The British do not switch their knife and fork as people do in the States. The fork remains in the left hand and the knife in the right hand.

Placing your utensils down on your plate signifies to wait staff that you are finished.

When not in use keep your hands in your lap and pass dishes to the left.

Who Pays?

In general the person who did the inviting is the person that pays.

Punctuality

It is very important to be on time.

How Are Allergies and GERD Related?

If you read Internet forums dedicated to heartburn, you quickly notice that there are a lot of people who suffer both acid reflux and allergies.

Doctors today treat acid reflux as a problem caused by excess stomach acid. They medicate with PPIs, proton pump inhibitors, that seek to reduce stomach acid.

\"pecan Pie\"

Similarly, doctors treat allergies such as a stuffy nose or asthma, by prescribing medications that treat the symptoms of the allergies rather than their causes. This article explores a common cause of allergies and GERD, and shows what you may be able to do about it if medications aren't helping, or if you choose not to take the medications. Remember to always consult a licensed qualified medical professional -- but this article will contain important information that you will benefit from knowing.

GERD and allergies -- joined at the hip?

In order to see the link between acid reflux and allergies we need to understand a bit about how the body deals with foreign invaders. When we encounter things that our bodies decide are foreign to us, our body sets up a defense against such foreign bodies. Our bodies produce IgE that is specifically keyed to react to those foreign bodies.

Our mast cells contain this IgE on their surfaces. So the next time we encounter the foreign body, that body is keyed to that particular IgE displayed on the mast cells, and the mast cells react to the foreign body and set up an immune response. Foreign bodies include what we breathe in, what we touch, and what we eat. When our bodies react to foreign bodies we breathe in, touch or eat, their immune response is really an inflammatory response.

We are all familiar with inflammation when we bang our knee against something and it gets all red and gets a bump on it. That's an inflammatory response.

What few realize is how we can have an internal inflammatory response. Inflammation inside is the same as inflammation outside, only worse.

Allergies, internal inflammation and your gut

Normally, food is supposed to be broken up into short little molecules of sugar and protein and fat. These short molecules go through the intestinal wall, through the liver, and get processed and sent off to various tissues.

These short molecules no longer are large enough to resemble pork or potatoes. They are generally so short that they do not give our mast cells any sort of immune cues.

But, if we are suffering from internal inflammation, our intestinal wall is inflamed. Inflammation causes the intestinal wall to get bigger, just like when you bang your knee it gets swollen and bigger.

The bigger spaces in your swollen intestines allow bigger molecules to migrate through and into your body.

Before, with a normal intestine, only very short, unrecognizable molecules could enter your bloodstream. Now, with our swollen and inflamed intestines, bigger molecules get through. What you have to understand about big molecules is this. All proteins are made from 20 amino acids. Every bacterium, virus, spinach leaf, piece of pork, or pecan pie in the world has protein that is made from the same 20 amino acids.

One single amino acid is the same as another. The body doesn't react to a single amino acid. A short chain of amino acids, like a few pearls on a string, doesn't get a reaction either because, as we saw, it is not recognizable by the body as coming from a foreign plant or animal. But as you build large molecules with hundreds or thousands of amino acids, the resulting molecules resemble particular pieces of animals or plants and the body reacts against these.

For example, a soybean has proteins that are thousands of amino acids long. A healthy gut should break those down into short pieces of amino acid chains that are unrecognizable except as good food protein. But an inflamed gut will let many of these large proteins through before they have been chopped up into small, unrecognizable proteins. The big soy protein molecules can now enter the bloodstream. There, they trigger a further inflammation reaction.

These bigger molecules shouldn't be floating around in the body. The body recognizes them as being foreign to it and starts to react.

How our bodies react with foreign proteins

The body's IgE spots these bigger molecules that shouldn't be there. It mobilizes a further immune response. Swelling, inflammatory cells migrating to various parts of the body. Just as we saw with allergies.

Even worse, is that these big molecules often resemble molecules naturally found in the body. For instance, one may look a bit like the body's own tissue. The body reacts against this large foreign molecule and since the molecule resembles the body's own molecules, the body also attacks your very own tissue.

This is the source of food intolerances and shows how they lead to auto-immune problems and internal inflammation. Once these food intolerances start, they continue and often get worse because our gut is continually inflamed. The inflammation in our gut allows ever more large foreign proteins through to our bloodstream. These additional foreign proteins also resemble proteins found in the body which causes our body to mobilize further against its own tissue. Our body's immune defense is a form of inflammation like armies of mast cells moving against not just foreign molecules, but the body's own molecules. This of course as we can see just makes the inflammation worse -- not just in the gut, but all over the body.

Scientists have discovered that internal inflammation is the source and possibly the cause of many diseases that afflict us including heart disease, high blood pressure, arthritis and diabetes.

And where does this connect with acid reflux? Simply this. Many of these foreign proteins are known as lectins. Foods such as wheat, corn, white potatoes and beans contain high amounts of lectins. Lectins shouldn't bother a healthy stomach and gut. But they do bother the gut of those who have allergies and acid reflux. That is why allergies and acid reflux are often connected. Lectins can trigger asthma and internal inflammation. And lectins can trigger heartburn.

A banana ice cream recipe? Is that what you're looking for? I've got just the recipe for you! Great choice by the way! If you've never made this frozen treat before, banana ice cream is a great recipe to start out with! What if you don't have a maker? Don't worry!

Why? Because one of the main problems with making this homemade delicacy is that the end product can often turn out hard, rather than smooth and creamy. One of the "home remedies" to make this tasty treat softer is to add a little bit of banana to the recipe.

\"Pie Recipe\"

When you make this homemade frozen treat, you definitely will be adding banana! The result? A smooth, creamy, hard-to-mess-up (though don't feel bad if you do!) batch of homemade heaven!

Banana ice cream not only has a wonderful texture, it also has a delicious taste. This frozen treat tastes just like a banana split! So if you've got a love for banana splits, this recipe will definitely be a favorite!

Enough about this great flavor, it's time to make it yourself. I'll let you make the final decision on whether or not you like it!

What You'll Need

3/4 cup lowfat milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/8 - 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
3 - 4 medium bananas, very ripe
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 tsp vanilla extract

What You'll Need to Do

Step One: Using a whisk or a hand mixer on low speed, mix milk, granulated sugar, and nutmeg. Continue mixing until sugar dissolves. (This will take 1-2 minutes.)

Step Two: Purree (or mash) bananas until they are pureed well. Add mashed bananas to the milk/sugar mixture.

Step Three: Chill banana mixture for at least one hour. Chilling the mixture will produce a smoother product in the end.

Step Four: Stir in heavy whipping cream and vanilla extract.

Step Five: Pour mixture into your maker and allow it to churn for about 25 - 30 minutes or according to the manufacturer's instructions!

Last and best of all, get out that spoon and enjoy!

You can spice up this delicious recipe in several different ways. About 5 minutes before your treat is done churning in your maker, you can add some of your favorite banana split toppings to the churning mixture!

This frozen treat is also great served "Sundae Style." Just get out your favorite sundae toppings and sundae sauces and make yourself the banana ice cream of your dreams!

Dog Constipation - What to Do

Most healthy dogs pass about one or two stools a day, but if they have a condition called constipation they might not be able to pass any stool at all.

One or two days without passing any stool is usually not too big a concern but if it gets to be two or three days you should see your veterinarian.

\"pumpkin Pie\"

Constipation is most likely seen in middle age and older dogs and one of the most common predisposing factors is not drinking enough water.

This is also the most common cause of constipation in humans as well so try to encourage your dog to drink more water.

You could do this by feeding a canned or soft dog food, or even by putting some gravy over their kibble.

Another condition that can cause constipation is hypothyroidism. This is another common condition in middle aged to older dogs where there is a deficiency of thyroid hormone and a slowing of the dog's metabolism. In this case a simple correcting of the thyroid hormone balance resolves the constipation issue.

One great way to trying to stimulate your dog to defecate is to feed them some canned pumpkin, not pumpkin pie mix. Pumpkin acts as a great laxative and your dog will actually liked the taste.

Remember be careful and consult your veterinarian before giving your dog any human laxatives as these can cause dangerous electrolyte imbalances.

Remember as always, the best way is always to prevent constipation for happening so always make sure your dog has lots of fresh clean water to drink.

Creative handmade Mother's Day card ideas can be a fun exercise where you can brainstorm different homemade greeting card ideas for your mom and your grandmothers - and all the special Moms in your life!

Mother's Day is a special holiday to celebrate the Mothers in your life. Mothers have one of the hardest jobs on Earth and what better way to acknowledge their contribution than offering them a creative handmade Mother's Day card?

\"apple Pie\"

Flowers and candy are a nice treat, but how about making a really unique Mother's day greeting card that celebrates your relationship with your mom?

Here are some creative homemade Mother's Day card ideas to help you get started:

* Special Moment or Memory
Do you have a special memory of your mother that you hold dear? Was it the time she baked you an apple pie after a bad break-up? Or did you guys always make a weekly movie date when you were growing up? Consider making a card to remember those lovely memories, so that your mom can enjoy the flashback too. A simple pie on the cover or two movie tickets on a handmade card with a special note inside will be perfect for dusting off those wonderful memories.

* Momma's Cooking
There's nothing better than your mom or grandmother's cooking! Do you have a favorite dish she always cooked when you came home from college? How about yummy desserts that your grandmother always seemed to have baking when you stopped by? Consider decorating the front of your card with pictures of your favorite treat and a note saying how much you've always loved her cooking. Or you could add a recipe card of the dish on the cover of the card with some added ingredients - a dash of joy, a handful of love, a spoonful of happiness, etc... Moms love it when their kids realize the little things that they always did, so this would make a really special creative homemade Mother's Day card.

* What are you proud of?
As children, we are always looking for approval and ways to make our parents proud. And little do we realize parents sometimes seek that same approval. Consider a huge accomplishment or major feat that your mom or grandmother have just completed. Celebrate their being by telling them how proud you are of their recent endeavors and how lucky you are to have such a strong/determined/go-getter/successful/creative/smart Mom.

Mother's Day is more than just saying "I love you, Mom," it is a holiday to express what is unique and special about your relationship. It is a time to celebrate your mom and grandmother as a person. Think of a creative way to recognize times and memories you share with your mom that make you especially warm and fuzzy because more often than not your mom will feel the same way.

A specially created handmade Mother's Day card can be more than just a once a year greeting card, it can be a chance to really express your love and share your past memories while looking forward to many more!
